2025 Jeep Gladiator vs. 2026 Jeep Gladiator: Which One Is Worth the Upgrade?
If you're in the market for a vehicle that delivers superb performance on urban roads and wild country trails, the Jeep Gladiator is worth a shot. This adventure vehicle combines the off-roading capabilities and open-air freedom of the Wrangler with the utility of a pickup truck. But with the 2025 model already in dealerships and the 2026 Gladiator expected to arrive by the end of 2025, you might be unsure whether waiting for the latest model is worth it. Stick around as our Stivers CDJR team compares them side by side to help you decide.
Jeep Gladiator Trim Updates: What's New in 2026?
The Jeep Gladiator's last major update came with the 2024 model, which introduced a refreshed grille, new wheel options, a larger 12.3-inch infotainment touch screen, and two new trims: Mojave X and Rubicon. For the 2025 Gladiator, Jeep kept the updates to a minimum. The only significant changes were the introduction of a standard eight-speed transmission across the lineup and two new exterior paint color choices: Fathom Blue and '41.
The Gladiator is set to carry over these updates into 2026, with no major updates expected for this model year. That being said, the new model expands the exterior paint color palette with a new Goldilocks Metallic joining the lineup. The Reign Purple paint option, previously limited to the Wrangler, will also debut on the Gladiator for the 2026 model year.
The 2026 Gladiator also offers new tool-free door hinges across the lineup for easier access. Meanwhile, the base Sport trim also now features power locks and power windows as standard equipment.
Comparing Engine Options and Off-Road Performance
Jeep was set to introduce a 4xe plug-in hybrid Gladiator for the 2026 model year. However, the cancellation of this optional powertrain means that the 2026 Gladiator will be powered by the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 offered on the 2025 model. This engine delivers a remarkable 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, more than sufficient for your commutes on U.S Highway 82 and weekend adventures to Stony Lonesome.
Stellantis CEO Bob Broderdorf confirmed that the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392's 6.4-liter HEMI V-8 engine will be available for the Gladiator. However, this powertrain may arrive in late 2026 or be shelved for the 2027 Gladiator model year. Whatever the case, this high-output engine will ramp up the Gladiator's towing and off-roading performance with its 470 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque.
Like its 2025 predecessor, the new Gladiator offers 11.1 inches of ground clearance, making navigating rocks and uneven terrain a breeze. 31.5 inches of water fording ensures you stay dry when traversing Lukes Loop after a heavy downpour. Meanwhile, its steel rock rails protect your truck's underbody when exploring Top Trails OHV Park.
The new Gladiator's electronic locking front and rear differentials help maintain traction and stability on challenging surfaces. Rubicon models also come equipped with a heavy-duty part-time 4x4 system, which gives you excellent control on steep inclines.
Tech and Infotainment Changes from 2025 to 2026
The 2026 Gladiator continues to offer the 12.3-inch U-Connect 5 NAV system that was introduced during the mid-cycle refresh for the 2024 model and carried over into 2025. This best-in-class infotainment system not only makes on-road navigation super easy, but it also features integrated off-road adventure guides, giving you access to over 200 off-road trails.
Like its 2025 predecessor, the new Jeep Gladiator comes with seven USB ports, the highest number in its class, to ensure all your devices stay powered up during your adventures. Meanwhile, the available Amazon Alexa Skill lets you send destinations to the NAV system and start your truck right from the comfort of your home. Other noteworthy infotainment features that remain unchanged for the 2026 model year include wireless Bluetooth connectivity, an eight-speaker sound system, and onboard WiFi.
All 2026 Jeep Gladiator models, with the exception of the Sport trim, come with adaptive cruise control as a standard feature. This sophisticated driver assistance technology automatically adjusts your truck's speed to maintain a set distance from the vehicle ahead. It also offers forward collision warning with active braking, blind spot monitoring, rear cross path detection, and rear park assist.
Towing and Payload Specs: Has Anything Changed?
The plug-in hybrid powertrain set to debut on the 2026 Gladiator was poised to significantly enhance its towing capabilities. However, its cancellation means the model will likely have the 7,700-pound max towing rating from the 2025 edition. We also expect the new Gladiator to offer a maximum available payload of 1,720 pounds.
Exterior and Interior Styling Differences
Little has changed in the way of exterior design on the 2026 Jeep Gladiator. It has the signature rugged design that we've come to know and love, with standout styling elements such as removable doors and a detachable roof. Nevertheless, the expanded paint color palette should be well-received by Gladiator fans considering an upgrade.
The Jeep Gladiator's interior has also remained largely the same since the 2025 updates. Notable in-cabin amenities that you can access, depending on the trim, include a voice-activated automatic climate control system, heated eight-way power front seats, leather seating surfaces, and a leatherette steering wheel.
Should You Buy the 2025 Gladiator or Wait for 2026?
If you like having the latest conveniences, the 2026 Gladiator might be worth the wait. Small changes like tool-free door hinges and standard power features on the base trim add everyday ease. You'll also get a couple of new paint options if you want something fresh. Still, the 2025 Gladiator covers all the essentials, with the same engine, tech, and off-road capabilities. If you're not in a rush, waiting is fine. But if you're ready to buy now, the 2025 Gladiator is a solid choice.
